Cleaning Carpets We have the nastiest very low pile, grey carpet in the kitchen that, no matter how much I try to keep it clean, looks absolutely horrid.
Does anyone have any tips or secrets to cleaning carpets that won't cost so much I need a bank loan?

I usually rent a Rug Doctor once a month from my local supermarket or Wal-mart. It works great and really pulls up a lot of dirt. You should see the water when you're done! I have the Bissell rug shampoo-er (ProHeat) which I spent a lot of money on... but the Rug Doctor definitely works a lot better. I mainly use the ProHeat for small spills and stains that need to be lifted right away.
